FAQ

  • What is the most common fishing charter?

The most common fishing charters in Wilmington are inshore fishing charters. An inshore fishing charter generally ranges from 4-8 hours long and we can accommodate up to 6 anglers.

On these trips you will have your shot on a variety of inshore and nearshore species. Here in Wilmington we do have a year round fishery so there is always a fish to go out there and target.

Everyone that we take out on a fishing charter gets to experience the beauty of the inshore and nearshore waters here in the Wilmington area. Many people see the marsh from the outside, riding down the intracoastal waterway. To us the real beauty of this place resides within the winding curves of the creeks deep within the marsh or in the open shallow bays. Many people never get to experience this hidden beauty. When fishing in these areas it is not uncommon to see an abundance of wildlife like see sea turtles, dolphins and stingrays while we target species that include Red Drum, Black Drum, Speckled Trout, Flounder and Sheepshead, Cobia, False Albacore, Tautog, Sharks & Tarpon.

  • What will we catch?

This is very season dependent, but the inshore species we target include Red Drum, Black Drum, Speckled Trout, Flounder and Sheepshead. Red Drum are here all year long but certain times of year they can either be spread out of very schooled up. The bigger schools of Red Drum are generally in the Fall, Winter and Spring time while in the warmer months those schools begin to break up spread out within the marsh. Speckled Trout as most prevalent in the Falls Months. Sheepshead and Flounder as generally here in the most numbers in the summer months.

For Nearshore it is also season dependent but the species include Red Drum, False Albacore, Cobia, Tarpon, Bull Redfish, Sheepshead, Tautog, Flounder and a whole host of other species.

  • What do you provide?

We will provide everything you need for your trip including: fishing licenses, the top fishing gear in the industry, fuel, bait, ice, and bottled water. All you have to do is show up on time, bring your own food/drinks, wear a bathing suit/bring towel (if you want to get in the water), and be ready to have a good time.

There is no need for a cooler to bring on the boat, as there is plenty of storage for ice/drinks/food on the boat itself. If you are planning to keep some fish then bring a cooler to keep in your car for when we get back to the ramp. I will provide any of the fish cleaning that is required to take your catch home unless you prefer to do it yourself. Also if you would like to bring your own rod or rods just let me know so that I can account for then when prepping for the trip.

  • As your hired guide it is my duty

It is my duty to place you in the right spot with the right equipment to have a day you won’t soon forget.

To make this happen I am always on the hunt for the targeted species and will supply my anglers with the best and most reliable equipment in the industry. We welcome all types of anglers, a fly fisherman looking to sight fish shallow water redfish, a new fisherman looking to learn the ropes and have a good time or a couple looking to do a little bit of everything we are happy to cater to any type of fisherman.

There are not many things that come with 100% certainty in the fishing world, but there is a handful of things that I can promise you will happen: I will be at the pickup location on time and ready to fish with a stocked and clean boat and I promise we will have fun.

  • How far out will we go/will we get seasick?

We run both inshore and nearshore guided fishing trips. If you book a nearshore trip, most likely if the weather allows we will be in the ocean ranging from 1 to 10 miles out. Generally we are usually on the lower end of that range. If you book an inshore trip than we will be sticking to the marshes, so the risk of sea sickness is very minimal. If you are nervous about going out on the boat, make sure to get plenty of sleep the night before, eat something before you get on the boat and bring a coke with you, just in case, to settle your stomach.

  • What if we don’t know anything about fishing?

This is no problem whatsoever, by the end of the trip you will know much more than you did when you stepped on the boat. I will guide you through each step and ensure you feel comfortable with the fishing process. I have a comprehensive knowledge about the area and will give you a more localized lesson in reading the water, assembling a rod, lure selection, and finding the best local areas to fish.

  • Can we keep our catch?

Of course you can! That being said, I do endorse conservation efforts and just ask that whatever you keep is not going to sit in the freezer for months and then be thrown out. A motto that I like to go by is keep what you are going to eat that night or the following day.

Fish conservation helps to keep the sport of fishing alive. It also helps to maintain the balance of ecosystems in our local area. Fish are very important to the planet and fish conservation helps to maintain nature’s balance.

  • What to bring?

We will provide everything you need for your trip including: fishing licenses, the top fishing gear in the industry, fuel, bait, ice, and bottled water. All you have to do is show up on time, bring your own food/drinks, wear a bathing suit/bring towel (if you want to get in the water), and be ready to have a good time. If possible, please don’t wear shoes with black soles because it scuffs up the deck and is hard to get off. I prefer you don’t use spray sunscreen as it can stain the deck, but feel free to put it on before you board or bring lotion sunscreen.

  • Where do you pick up from?

I primarily launch from the Wrightsville Beach Boat Ramp as well as the Fort Fisher Ramp but there is a good amount of other public ramps that we can utilize as we cover an area from Southport up to New River. If you are staying in locations such as Topsail Island, Southport, Carolina Beach and Bald Head Island, when you reach out to book, we can discuss those details and meet where it’s most convenient for you.

  • What if we book and there is foul weather on our fishing day?

We do our best to accommodate you and the weather. Therefore, if we can move dates and times, we will. If it a safety concern, then we are not fishing. However, a little foul weather will not deter us from having a great day on the water.

  • How late can we book a trip?

It is never too late to call and check. While availability does fill up fast in peak seasons, we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
